Protecting Your RV

Buying and owning a RV is not just a big financial investment it is a large emotional investment as well. We look to the RV to provide us with an escape from work and normal life, it is a place where we can relax and have fun. We fill it with possessions that we love and that remind us of happy times. Then Autumn comes and we stop using the RV and leave it to stand idle over the cold winter months and wait for Spring to arrive so that we can start to escape our daily lives once again.

Problem is that all too often Spring comes and we discover that the RV now has an unpleasant musty smell and our prized possessions have traces of mold all over them.

The winter can be hard on a RV and its contents but help is at hand.

The dreaded spring smell, the furry spots on the upholstery and the black spots on the walls are all caused by the same thing – damp. Anything that can absorb moisture within a RV is in danger of being destroyed by excess moisture, this will include paper, books, pictures, cushions, bedding and wood. You also then have the problem going forward that you and your family will be sleeping in a damp environment that is perfect for dust mites and muld spores to reproduce – both of which are potentially harmful, especially to those who suffer from allergic reactions which can trigger conditions such as asthma.

All of this is easy to prevent and manage. All you need to do is to keep the level of moisture in the RV down below safe levels. You can do this by using a dehumidifier which will turn the excess moisture into water before it can do damage to the inside of the RV and if you are living in the RV it will also help to keep the RV warmer and is an effective method of drying washing. A dehumidifier can be run when you are not using the RV by placing it on the kitchen drainer and using a hose to drain the water into the sink, that way you don’t have to be there to empty it. When you are there the dehumidifier can sit in the corner of the room and it will prevent damp issues from forming and will make the RV feel warmer and more pleasant to live in.

Thousands of people already use a dehumidifier to look after their RV, here are our top five reasons for using a dehumidifier in a RV;

1. Stop damp destroying your favourite possessions
2. Prevent mold from forming on your RV walls
3. No more musty smells
4. Protect your family from mold spores, dust mites and other damp related illnesses
5. Preserve your financial investment in the RV
6. Make your RV a nicer, warmer place to live in.

OK so that is six and not five, you can have the last one for free!

Unfortunately not every dehumidifier is suitable for use in a RV. You will need one that is small, quiet, safe to leave unattended, can be drained continuously, able to withstand power cuts and able to work at temperatures below 60°F (an important temperature for dehumidifiers). The most popular dehumidifier for RV owners, one that ticks all of these boxes and more, is the Meaco DD8L Zambezi series which have been designed with this type of application in mind.
